How to use the Loan Calculator

To use this loan calculator, please fill out the following fields:

  • Principal Amount: The total amount of the loan.
  • Annual Interest Rate (%): The interest rate per year as a percentage.
  • Loan Term (Years): The duration of the loan in years.
  • Extra Monthly Payment (optional): Any additional amount you plan to pay each month beyond the calculated monthly payment.

After entering the information, press the “Calculate” button to see the amortization schedule, which shows the monthly payment, the allocation of the payment towards principal and interest, and the remaining balance each month.

How It Calculates the Results

This calculator uses the following formulas:

  • Monthly Interest Rate: Annual Interest Rate / 12 / 100
  • Number of Payments: Loan Term * 12
  • Standard Monthly Payment: P * r / (1 – (1 + r)^(-n)), where P is the principal, r is the monthly interest rate, and n is the number of payments.
  • Total Payment: The sum of all monthly payments (including extra payments).
  • Total Principal: The total amount paid towards the loan principal.
  • Total Interest: The total amount paid towards interest.

Limitations

This calculator assumes that payments are made consistently on a monthly basis and that the interest rate remains constant throughout the loan term. It does not account for potential changes in interest rates, missed payments, or payments made outside of the set monthly schedule.
