Interest Calculator
This interest calculator helps you determine how much your savings can grow based on the principal amount, annual interest rate, time in years, compound frequency, and any additional periodic contributions you make.
How to Use
- Enter the principal amount (starting balance) in dollars.
- Enter the annual interest rate as a percentage.
- Enter the time period in years.
- Select the compound frequency from the dropdown menu (Annually, Semi-Annually, Quarterly, or Monthly).
- If you plan to make additional periodic contributions, enter the amount in dollars (optional).
- Click the “Calculate” button to see the results.
How it Calculates
The calculator uses the compound interest formula:
A = P(1 + r/n)nt
where:
A
is the future value of the investment, P
is the principal amount, r
is the annual interest rate (decimal), n
is the number of times interest is compounded per year, and t
is the time the money is invested for in years.
If additional contributions are made each period, they are compounded individually and then added to the future value.
Limitations
This calculator assumes that the interest rate remains constant and that the contributions are made at the same frequency as the compounding periods. It also assumes no withdrawals or fees which may affect the actual interest earned.
