How to Use the Interest Calculator

To use this interest calculator, simply follow these steps:

  • Enter the Principal Amount (P): This is the initial amount of money you have invested or borrowed.
  • Enter the Annual Interest Rate (r): This is the annual interest rate at which the money grows or accumulates, in percentage.
  • Enter the Number of Years (t): This is the number of years the money is invested or borrowed for.
  • Click on the “Calculate” button.

The result will display the Total Amount (A) which includes both the principal and the interest earned over the period, and the Total Interest Earned which is the difference between the total amount and the principal.

How It Calculates the Results

The calculation of compound interest is based on the formula:

A = P (1 + r/n)nt

Where:

  • P = Principal Amount
  • r = Annual Interest Rate (decimal)
  • n = Number of times the interest is compounded per year (quarterly compounding means n=4)
  • t = Number of years

The total interest earned is calculated as:

Interest = A - P

Limitations

This calculator assumes a fixed annual interest rate and does not take into account any taxes, fees, or changes to the interest rate. It also does not accommodate more complex investment situations such as varying interest rates or regular additional contributions to the principal.
