Loan Calculator

This comprehensive loan calculator helps you to estimate your monthly loan payments, total payments, and interest paid over the life of the loan. Fill in the loan amount, annual interest rate, loan term in years, and the number of payments you will make per year (e.g., 12 for monthly, 52 for weekly).

How to Use It

Enter the loan amount in dollars, the annual interest rate as a percentage, the loan term in years, and the number of payments per year into the respective fields. Click the ‘Calculate’ button to compute the monthly payment, total payment, and total interest paid.

How It Calculates the Results

The calculator uses the formula for an amortizing loan to calculate the monthly payment:

M = P * (r * (1 + r)^n) / ((1 + r)^n - 1)

Where:

  • M is the monthly payment
  • P is the loan principal
  • r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate divided by 12)
  • n is the number of payments (loan term in years multiplied by the number of payments per year)

After calculating the monthly payment, it multiplies by the total number of payments to get the total payment and subtracts the principal from this total to get the total interest paid.

Limitations

This calculator assumes a fixed interest rate and a fixed monthly payment over the life of the loan. Actual payments may vary if interest rates change, or if fees and other charges are added.
